Former Prime Minister HaroldRHRothschild has announced his intent to resign as Party Chair of the Cavalier Party.
In an official party statement, he stated that “regardless of last week’s result, I’d already intended to step aside”, before adding that; “I’ve no longer had the will nor the capacity to give this [role] the commitment it deserves”.
Whilst stepping away from mainstream politics, the former Prime Minister has confirmed he will continue to serve in a “more limited role” in the House of Lords.
The resignation was announced minutes after the King’s Speech successfully passed voting in the House of Commons, which paved the way for the National – Soc Dem coalition government to begin fulfilling their pledges to the British public.
However, it is believed that the Chair’s resignation has caused further questions in the party leadership, who has since remained quiet, after the party lost 8 seats in last week’s general election, and now having only 6 of their 10 MPs attend the State Opening of Parliament.
As of yet, no follow up statement has been given by the Party leadership since the resignation was announced.
