Royal Navy recovers spacecraft off the coast of Scotland

The recovery was apart of a growing effort to develop a safer space industry in the UK, and attract international business.

In a post made on social media platform “X” earlier this evening, the Royal Navy has announced that it recovered an unmanned cargo spacecraft, including components such as the capsule and the parachute.

The spacecraft, known as ‘CRM-1’, was launched into space by the United Kingdom Space Agency and Eris Space last month, containing crucial cargo such as food, and parts for the Lovell Space Station.

The operation involved RFA Mounts Bay, a Bay Class Landing Ship, part of the Royal Fleet Auxilliary, as well as numerous Royal Navy divers and engineers.

The Royal Navy and Royal Air Force have plans to conduct more recovery operations in the future, as interest in the space sector continues to grow internationally.
