Alwaysbegold MBE appointed as Governor of Saint Helena

Having served the territory as Acting Governor since February, Gold takes on the job on permanent basis following royal appointment.

This evening, His Majesty the King has appointed Alwaysbegold MBE as Governor of Saint Helena, following the resignation of outgoing Governor ZaneJAlexander.

The appointment was confirmed by the Royal Household in a press release issued by the Director for Royal Communications from Buckingham Palace.

Alwaysbegold has served as Acting Governor since mid February after Zane’s absence left the territory of Saint Helena with an abundance of leadership and development.

When selected for the interim role of Acting Governor, Gold shared that he was “committed to ensuring that the high standards that this island deserves are upheld,” after taking on the senior role in the territory at a crucial time for the island’s growth and progress.

Since being appointed Acting Governor, Gold regularly met with the Acting Chief Minister, Sgt_Fxsh, to discuss important government affairs, and flew to London to visit His Majesty King Louis after he ascended to the throne, to discuss Saint Helena, with a proposed Royal visit to the African island to be confirmed.

Gold also met with Saint Helena’s most iconic landmark, Jonathan the Tortoise on the grounds of the Governor’s residence, Plantation House. A picture was shared following false reports in April which stated that the tortoise had died, where the Governor’s office confirmed he was “alive and well”.
