Pacificanity has resigned as Secretary-General, saying the organisation is now ready for new leadership after a period of recovery.
In a statement delivered during today’s session, she said it had been “a pleasure and honour” to serve, but made clear her time in office was always intended to be temporary.
She explained that she had sought the position only to stabilise the community and “lay the foundations for successive secretariats to build off”, adding that those foundations are now in place.
When she first took office, participation and engagement were at what she described as “grim” levels. Activity has since improved significantly, with the community now averaging more than 60 participants and between 25 and 30 nations taking part in each General Assembly session.
Despite the progress, she cautioned that the recovery remains incomplete, describing recent gains as gradual rather than a full return to previous levels.
She said the time was right to step aside and allow “new blood to take the reins”.
In her closing remarks, Pacificanity thanked members for their support and formally endorsed Sapienz, the Swedish Ambassador to the United Nations, whose country holds a seat on the Security Council, as her preferred candidate in the upcoming election.
