Today, at around 2000 BST, members of the Royal Marine Corps and King’s Royal Hussars conducted a joint operation to rescue the Prime Minister, theRightHon, from Belarusian Forces operating in Øverbygd, Norway.
A large combined arms force of Marines and Troopers kitted up and prepared at Camp Viking to move to the location of the PM in Vikings, Challenger 2s, Boxers and a Wildcat helicopter. Specialist elements such as a Marine Recce Sniper, Mortar Troop and Recce were also in play.
On the way to the compound enemy tanks were encountered, and were swiftly destroyed by overwhelming firepower. As the force edged closer to the compound, sections dismounted and advanced with support from armoured vehicles, before moving in and clearing the buildings.
The PM was safely extracted in one of KRH’s vehicles back to Camp Viking before returning back to the UK, with the operation considered a success and all opposing forces deterred.
