Unity Party leader to face leadership contest following “disappointing” results

The Party leader announced that she would open a leadership contest ahead of the next Stormont election.

The First Minister of Northern Ireland and leader of the Unity Party, leahvnx, has released a statement claiming that the Party’s results in the September General Election were “disappointing”.

In a statement published on X, she said that she believes it is “the right moment” for the Party to have “an honest conversation” about what they stand for, and who they are.

Leahvnx said that she “remains committed” to the Party, and hopes the election can be approached “with respect for one another”.

The History of the Unity Party

The Unity Party is a Northern Irish party founded in March 2026, by the current Prime Minister, Sir Callum Cathcart.

The Party endorsed leahvnx as its Regional Candidate for Northern Ireland just days later, where campaigned to represent the Party in the Commons, and won.

Following two months at the helm of the Party, Sir Callum resigned as leader and passed the baton to to leahvnx, who won the subsequent leadership election uncontested.

Leahvnx has remained leader of the Party since, serving as both First Minister and Member of Parliament for Northern Ireland.

Throughout her time in office, leahvnx has pushed governments for further devolution and powers within Northern Ireland, and secured the first dedicated Robux fund under control of the Northern Ireland Executive.

Leahvnx will now enter the leadership contest, campaigning to retain the existing support of party members.
