King’s Royal Hussars decommissions

The regiment was decommissioned in an announcement made earlier this evening.

The King’s Royal Hussars, the British Army’s primary armoured regiment, has been decommissioned effective immediately.

The regiment was one of four in the British Army, operating alongside the Parachute Regiment, Household Cavalry and Grenadier Guards.

Who were the King’s Royal Hussars?

The King’s Royal Hussars were the British Army’s primary armoured regiment, operating the Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank.

In this role, they provided crucial armoured support to cavalry and infantry soldiers during operations.

What do the troopers say?

Speaking to the BBC, one soldier in the regiment said:

“The headquarters were just inactive and didn’t know to make the regiment function. We have had weeks of one event per day, sometimes none.”

General IsmailWellesley, Chief of the Defence Staff said:

“The regiment was just not fitting into the Armed Forces’ structure … we feel it’s better to not spread resources thin and consolidate a little before we expand in different avenues”.

What happens next?

With the regiment now officially closing, its members are given the opportunity to transfer to existing units across the British Army.

The Hussar’s Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Vrzuuu, will be transitioning into a new role as Army Sergeant Major.

The Army Sergeant Major is the most senior Warrant Officer in the British Army, with all post holders usually having to commission before re-entering the soldier ranks as a Warrant Officer Class One.
