His Excellency ZaneJAlexander GCSH OBE CSM PDSM has announced his resignation as Governor of the British Overseas Territory of Saint Helena, Ascension Island and Tristan da Cunha after having been absent from service over the last few months.
In a press release shared by the Governor’s Office at Plantation House, the outgoing Governor made the decision to resign due to “time commitments stopping me from putting the effort into the role that it deserves”.
Zane was originally appointed as Governor of Saint Helena in December 2025 by the former King Alexander I, after having served as Deputy Governor under 2 serving Governors before him. Following the new year, he appointed PhilipCransworth as Acting Chief Minister in an effort to reform democracy in the community before taking absence in mid February.
Following approval by government representatives & the Royal Household, Mr alwaysbegold was selected as Acting Governor.
Prior to serving as Governor and as Deputy Governor before, Zane was most known in the community as the Chief Constable of Police, having dedicated much of his service to ensuring civilian safety across the island. He led a successful cohort of police officers, after recruiting several well known figures from UK policing, and ensured the citizens continued to have faith in the island’s policing system.
In his resignation, Zane thanked alwaysbegold for serving and fulfilling the Governor’s responsibilities during his absence, and is “grateful to leave” the Governorship in Gold’s “capable hands”.
