All Members of Parliament convened at Westminster within the Lords chamber this evening for an emergency Parliamentary session, following the collapse of the Cavalier-National government on Monday.
During the session, the Lord Great Chamberlain, wrightsonophobia, issued a proclamation, on the request of His Majesty, whereby Parliament is to be prorogued for a week until Tuesday 18th March.
The prorogation of Parliament is the formal end of a Parliamentary session, suspending all work of both houses, halting most Parliamentary business and ending any further legislative processes, and is exercised by the Sovereign, on the advice of the Prime Minister.
Whilst prorogation usually ends with a State Opening of Parliament, Lords Commissioners have confirmed that Parliamentary business shall continue as usual after Tuesday 18th, with no current plans for scheduling a general election.
