His Majesty’s Treasury has confirmed the appointment of C_locky as the new Chairman of the Office for Communications (OFCOM).
Ofcom is the government-approved regulatory and competition authority for media, broadcasting and communications industries in the United Kingdom.
C_locky has served on the Ofcom Board for several months, having spearheaded the organisation in the transition period since the former Chairman, The Lord Wembley DatDonutDev, resigned from the position last month.
Ofcom holds an important role in the registration process of a new media company, working in partnership with Companies House Registrars in the stages. All new and existing media companies are required to hold a media license from Ofcom in order to operate within the UK.
Once approved, Ofcom oversees all content shared by the media sector and issues penalties or withdrawal notices should any company violate any of the media guidelines set out by the regulator.
In his official appointment statement, the new Chairman appreciated the Treasury’s selection panel (chaired by the Permanent Secretary, JoeMcEntegart) for “putting their trust in myself to continue to carry out the duties of this independent Board”.
He added that “we will ensure that transparency is at the forefront of our operations and … that truth and honesty is our top priority.”
He followed up highlighting his seven point plan for Ofcom, that aims to reform Ofcom and set a progression plan of growth to continue with regulating the media sector, advising Companies House to file reregistration for inactive companies and review categories of media licensing.
