The government is set to announce a series of procedural reforms aimed at reshaping parliamentary scrutiny.
Under the proposed changes, Friday sittings would formally become Prime Minister’s Questions, placing full attention on the Prime Minister to answer questions directly from members.
Ministerial Questions (MQs) would be scheduled for individual Secretaries of State throughout the week. Under the plans, each Secretary of State would be required to attend at least one MQ session for questioning, ensuring departments remain directly answerable to the chamber.
The government is also exploring the introduction of a written questions system. However, this proposal would be brought forward separately in a future amendment rather than as part of the immediate reforms.
