Iran says its armed forces have carried out a limited missile operation against armed terrorist groups in northern Iraq.
The operation was announced by Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Headquarters of the Armed Forces.
According to the Iranian statement, the strikes targeted identified militant positions and logistical facilities believed to be connected to hostile armed groups.
Iran said the operation was conducted as part of its stated objective of preventing cross-border attacks against Iranian territory.

Iran says civilians were not targeted
Iranian authorities stressed that the operation was directed at armed militant targets, rather than the Iraqi population or civilian infrastructure.
The government called on all relevant parties to take measures to prevent further attacks originating from militant positions in the region.
Iran also said it remained prepared to provide additional information to the United Nations regarding the operation.
No details have been provided by Iran on the number of missiles launched, casualties or the extent of any damage.
The claims made by the Iranian authorities have not been independently verified.
