Speaking in an exclusive interview with the BBC, DeanRHeathcote described a political career focused both on parliamentary representation and wider community activity.
“You won’t find a more reliable and experienced Independent than myself,” DeanRHeathcote said.
DeanRHeathcote pointed to work both inside and outside Parliament, including organising in-game events and running the Inns, as examples of ongoing involvement within the community.
“I’ve devoted myself to benefitting the community in any way I can,” DeanRHeathcote said.
DeanRHeathcote also described a desire to continue serving in the Commons, referring to being “the most passionate statesman there is”.
“I want to keep pushing myself, challenging myself, doing better for the community while I still have that opportunity afforded to me,” DeanRHeathcote said.
Asked about priorities if re-elected, DeanRHeathcote said the first objective would be the introduction of a new Employment Bill aimed at simplifying existing legislation.
“Pass a fresh Employment Bill,” DeanRHeathcote said.
According to DeanRHeathcote, the proposed legislation had originally been expected to be introduced before the election was called.
DeanRHeathcote said the Employment Bill would “simplify the existing legislation and go back to basics”, arguing that such reforms would benefit both workers and employers.
“I’ve been having those conversations quite recently, and the current proposal is looking quite fabulous,” DeanRHeathcote said.
When asked about criticism, DeanRHeathcote acknowledged disappointment over failing to pass a proposed Museums, Libraries and Archives Bill during the current term.
“I wish I had passed my Museums, Libraries and Archives Bill this term,” DeanRHeathcote said.
DeanRHeathcote explained that other political matters had taken priority, limiting the time available to complete the legislation.
However, DeanRHeathcote said discussions were now taking place with individuals described as highly knowledgeable in those fields, with plans to bring forward a stronger proposal during the next parliamentary term.
Independent candidates are expected to play a role in the upcoming election campaign, with DeanRHeathcote positioning experience, legislative reform and community involvement at the centre of the campaign message.
